Raikou's Lair | Photoshop Rainbow Tutorial

My Photoshop Rainbow Tutorial

Well, seeing as you came here for the tutorial, I won't bore you with introductory text. Lets get going, shall we?

Step 1

Ok, first off we need a picture that you are going to put a Rainbow in. You will need a picture that looks like it just rained, because Rainbows only appear after it rains. I choose this picture:

Remember; if you image is too dark, you can always go over it with the Dodge Tool to brighten it up just a bit.

Step 2

For step 2 we need to take our image, and add the Rainbow Gradient. First, go to the Gradient Selection(I am using Photoshop Elements 3.0, so my program might differ in appearence.) When you find it, it should have an arrow beside the gradient chooser, click that and go to the next arrow if there is one, then go to 'Special Effects' in the dropdown box.
After you click that go to the Main dropdown window and you should see something with a Rainbow and when you hover your cursor over it, it should say "Russell's Rainbow". It was named after one of the creators of Photoshop.

Step 3

Next, make a new layer! This is very important, otherwise the image will be messed up when we curve the Rainbow! After that, click the Russell's Rainbow Icon and then take your gradient tool and drag a straight line from the top of your image, to around the middle. Try not to make the line too long though, it makes the rainbow bigger. After you do that, there should be a Rainbow across your image.

Step 4

Now for the fourth step, go to Filter> Distort> Polar Coordinates. This will curve your Rainbow. You can ajust the size of the rainbow by using the move tool. It should look something like this after you resize it:
Now, erase the parts of your image that aren't supposed to have a Rainbow on them, but be careful, the Rainbows' last color is a light Blue, so take caution when erasing, and try to use a Softer Brush. Then it should look like this:

Step 5

Next you should blur your Rainbow a bit and your done!
